The Winchcombe School

Improving As One

Modern Foreign Languages

What is our Philosophy?

Learning a language helps children to develop a natural curiosity and confidence to explore, other countries, cultures and languages, accepting that, in a multi-lingual society it is a valuable skill to be able to communicate effectively with others in another language.  It also deepens their understanding of the world and their place in it. By the time children leave The Winchcombe School, they will have a natural curiosity and confidence to explore, other countries, cultures and languages, accepting that, in a multi-lingual society it is a valuable skill to be able to communicate effectively with others in another language.

What is taught?

At The Winchcombe School, we teach French through the Primary French ‘Niveau Bleu’ Project. It introduces children to French culture through the use of songs, rhymes, significant landmarks and cultural traditions and celebrations, encouraging children to think about the similarities and differences between this and their own culture and why these exist. It also explores places in the UK and Europe, looking at where in the world France and the UK are and how they are linked.

How is it taught?

French is taught in key stage two once a week.
