At The Winchcombe School, we teach art by following seven Big Ideas from the Cornerstones Curriculum; Creativity, Materials, Nature, Place, Humankind, Comparison, Significance. Through our art curriculum we provide children with engaging and practical lessons that build on their creativity and imaginations.
Through the ‘Big Ideas’ Creativity and Materials, children use and combine a range of materials and media and develop techniques through experimentation to create different types of art. Through Nature, Place and Humankind, children will use nature and natural forms, explore landscapes and develop art that uses human form.
The ‘Big Ideas’ Comparison and Significance, allow children to learn about significant people, artwork and movements and compare artists, architects and designers. We aim to build upon a child’s prior knowledge and develop skills, knowledge and vocabulary through inspiring and challenging art projects each term.
