The Winchcombe School

At the Winchcombe School we teach music through the Charanga scheme, which incorporates the following Big Ideas from the Cornerstones Curriculum: Creativity, Investigation and Significance. This provides a means of exploring music from all over the world and from different times, through the following aspects: performance, playing instruments, singing, pulse and rhythm, composition, improvisation, notation, listening, appreciation and significant people. Through their learning, we aim to build on children’s prior knowledge and skills, developing their use of key vocabulary (pulse, rhythm, pitch, dynamics, tempo, timbre, structure, texture, notation) and their understanding of a variety of musical styles and instruments.
