The Winchcombe School

Improving As One

School Policies

The Winchcombe School in Newbury is compliant with the Public Sector Equality Duty (PSED) under the Equality Act 2010.

The school meets its statutory requirements by actively maintaining and reviewing its foundational policies. It implements strategic measures across the three core aims of the duty: eliminating unlawful discrimination, advancing equality of opportunity, and fostering good relations within the community.

Core Compliance Evidence

The school's compliance strategy integrates equality considerations directly into its operational structure, policy reviews, and specialised provisions:

  • Eliminating Discrimination & Harassment: Maintained through rigorous adherence to The Winchcombe School Equality Policy (see below but due to be reviewed September 2026) and a strict Anti-Bullying Policy. Staff training, active monitoring of behavioural metrics, and a warm yet strict behaviour framework safeguard a safe, non-discriminatory learning environment.
  • Advancing Equality of Opportunity: Delivered via Quality First Teaching and robust inclusion practices outlined in the school’s recently updated Special Educational Needs (SEN) Policy (approved March 2, 2026). Crucially, our school hosts a dedicated Speech and Language Resourced Provision (catering for up to 15 pupils) alongside a local authority Year 5 Language and Literacy Resource Base, removing structural barriers for pupils with communication needs.
  • Fostering Good Relations: Facilitated through an Open Door Policy for families, regular multi-agency collaboration, and an inclusive curriculum that reinforces core values of Respect, Kindness, Curiosity and Courage. Vulnerable children are further protected through formal integration with the local authority's In-Year Fair Access Protocols.
